Today we took the Nuremberg City Tour. Once the unofficial capital of the Holy Roman Empire, Nuremberg today is the second largest city in Bavaria with about 500,000 inhabitants. The city was the stage for Hitler’s most grandiose rallies. After World War II, Nuremberg was also the site of the famous trials in which nearly a dozen Nazi leaders were condemned to death and others sentenced to life in prison.
No other city except Dresden was as severely damaged during World War II. Considering the 90% destruction of the Old Town, the rebuilding after the war was virtually a miracle.
Above, you can see the podium where Adolf Hitler would make his speeches during the rallies where thousands of people gathered.
