Lisbon Portugal, Sunday, 4/29/12

 

With an 80% chance of rain, we ventured out with umbrella’s and rain poncho’s hoping the rain wouldn’t be too heavy.

We had a short heavy shower early in the day, but most of the day was alright for touring.   Cloudy and cool – 60 degrees.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is situated on a range of low hills at the estuary of the River Tagus and is approximately 6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.  It is both the western-most and one of the oldest capital cities of Europe with a population of just over a half million inhabitants. 

 

And then came the rain!

note to self -    Never take open-air tour bus when there is a threat of rain.  :)

4/28/12 - At Sea

 

Our last sea day.   After 6 days at sea, we’re looking forward to our day in Lisbon tomorrow.   Seas were a little rough, but not too bad.  Spent the day enjoying some of the activities that Celebrity offers.   I continued with my water colors class, and clearly I need much more instruction.  :)  Also attended another cooking class with Chef Franco.   Sheri and I have been enjoying the lectures about the White House.  Tonight was another formal night.

Monday, 4/23/12 – first day at sea

  We seem to be very much affected by the north eastern storm that was predicted.   Rough seas, high winds and heavy rain. 

After an interesting lecture about life in the White House, we retreated to the cabin since it was difficult to maintain our balance walking around the rocking ship.    

Silhouette Cruise – 4/22 – 5/5/12

Today, 4/22, Mike brought us to the Bayonne  cruise terminal to board the beautiful Celebrity Silhouette for our 13 night trans-Atlantic crossing to Civitavecchia, Italy.  We’ll be at sea for 6 days before reaching Lisbon Portugal on 4/29.  Other ports are Seville, Spain, Barcelona, Spain, Provence (Toulon), France and Livorno (Florence) Italy before we reach the port for Rome – Civitavecchia on Saturday May 5th.  
A Nor-eastern storm is approaching the coast with predictions of high winds, heavy rain, and even some heavy snow in some area’s of Pennsylvania and New York.  

Friends, Bob and Sheri were joining us on our cruise adventure.  Here we are at the Martini Bar just prior to our 7 PM dinner reservation.   We’re enjoying “select dining” so we can enjoy our meals on our own schedule.

By this time, the ship was beginning to rock and roll a little, but nothing too much.   Below are some photo’s taken in the sky bar at the top of the ship.   This will be our Elite lounge before dinner every night.

Vasili’s 9th Birthday – April 21,2012

 

Today we celebrated Vasili’s 9th birthday at Mt. Fugi Japanese Steak House in Hasbrouck Hights.   Oh what a fun evening we had.  Even Alexander loved using chop sticks.
