Meeting the Family in Kaunas - June 15, 2013

Today Kos's cousin Rimantas and his Dad, Vytas picked us up from our hotel in Vilnius and brought us to Kaunas where we would host a luncheon for 22 members of the family and meet them for the first time. We met Rimantas 11 years ago when he was a university student who came to Ocean City to work for the summer.

Pictured above is Rimantas, Kos and Vytas (Rimantas's Dad)

Before the family began to arrive, I took the opportunity to take some pictures of the beautifully set table.

It was somewhat overwhelming to meet so many members of the family at the same time. It took quite some time for everyone to introduce themselves and talk about how they are related to Kos. Family members from Kos's Mom's side of the family as well as from Kos's Dad's side had never met each other in the past, so it was interesting to hear the family history. Kos did a wonderful job speaking Lithuanian and translating. He brought some old family photographs on his tablet which the family seemed to enjoy.

After lunch, we gathered on the outside patio for a group photo.

We were so glad that we were able to meet everyone after so many years. I was able to communicate with some of the family that spoke English, and Kos was able to communicate in Lithuanian and translate to me. It was an awesome experience.
