Luzern, Switzerland–day 2

Luzern is very, very expensive. This morning’s coffee cost $15 for 2 cups. Today we took a train to the steepest cogwheel railway in the world which would bring us to the top of Mt. Pilatus, which is 7000 feet above sea levelo. The return trip is a spectacular ride by aerial cableway and panorama gondolas which brought us down to Kriens for a bus back to Lucern. The views at the top were amazing. My knees started shaking while walking the narrow walkway with virtually no fence to protect you from falling --- so Kos continued on the trail and I scurried back to the lodge.

This afternoon we took a cruise on Lake Luzern. On the side of the lake, you can see the swans nesting in plain view. 2011 Luzern 0612011 Luzern 0752011 Luzern 2912011 Luzern 1732011 Luzern 1812011 Luzern 1972011 Luzern 1982011 Luzern 2022011 Luzern 2052011 Luzern 2102011 Luzern 214

Because things were so expensive here, we ate most of our meals from the supermarket sitting on a bench on the side of the lake. Fabulous cheese and bread here. Many people picnic here - and now we know why. This was one of the tips from travel writer Rick Steves, and it worked out perfectly for us. One of the restaurants we checked out for lunch had a slice of quiche for $32. Tomorrow, we’re off to Munich.
