Arrival in Lithuania June 13, 2013

Flight out of Newark Airport delayed an hour because of a problem with the computer system in Copenhagen where we were picking up our connecting flight to Lithuania. Fortunately, we were able to make the connection with not much of a problem. We were told to go to the Tourist Information at the airport and have them call a cab for us rather than simply exit the airport go to the taxi stop. That was excellent advice since the cost of the cab to the hotel was $25 Litas,, rather than $80 Litas had we just hailed a cab. There's something to be said for research and planning. Thank you Kos! Arrived at the Artis Centrum Hotel in the old town area of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Very nice 4 star hotel - but a little wacky. Our room is located on the 6th floor. We were told we had to take 2 elevators to get there. Go to the 4th floor, exit the elevator, turn right, follow the corridor and then use another elevator to go to floor 6. But - there is no floor 6 so we get off at 5. Which appears to be floor 6. As if that wasn't confusing enough, when we go back down, we get off at floor 1 where there's a restaurant, which is supposed to be on floor 2. We're getting off to a good start here -- confused. :)

After a very much needed short nap, off we went to explore the old town and have dinner.

The weather is a beautiful 75 degrees and sunny, a little warmer than we thought it would be. The photo's above were taken from Cathedral Square, a central meeting place where many of the tours begin.

We had a traditional Lithuanian dinner of cold and hot borsht with potatoes and cipolini - a potato dumpling stuffed with meat with a sour cream mushroom sauce. I hope I don't outgrow my clothes! :) LOL

The total cost of our dinner, including 2 Lithuanian beers, 2 soups and cipolina was about $15 US dollars for both of us. Kos is loving Lithuania. He actually wants to take me shopping tomorrow! :) Things are getting better. :)
