Boarded ship in time for lunch. Today we oriented ourselves to the ship, unpacked (finally!) and met Rich and Jane in the Viking Crown Lounge before dinner. Also met with the other 3 couples who will be touring in St. Petersburg with us. Enjoyed the show after dinner and hit the sack early. Tomorrow we'll be in Warnemunde, Germany.

On Day 2, we arrived in Warnemunde, Germany early. It was a short walk to the train station where we picked up a train to take us into Rostock, a quaint little historic town. Kos had downloaded directions off the internet to take us to the historical society for a walking tour. After a short tram ride, we arrived in the exact location that the directions indicated. "Yes!" Score 1 for Kos. We made it! :) When we got off the tram, we found another couple who downloaded the same directions and were planning to take the same walking tour --- so off we went! We were happy as clams! :)

Well, we found our way to the historical society, but the walking tour was no longer available. Evidently, the internet site was outdated. So what do we do now? We find our way to the Tourist Information office and learn that a bus tour was leaving the square in an hour. Perfect! Rostock is a quaint little historical town dating back to the 1200's. More than 50% of the town was destroyed during the war. There is a mix of old and new architecture. The tour bus was a small, 8 passenger vehicle that was able to navigate the narrow cobblestone streets of historic Rostock. We were the only passengers on board, so we received personal attention. Very nice!

It was recommended that we go to a beer garden on the water for lunch. A short walk from town, we came across this little fellow on our way to lunch. He seemed to be enjoying the puddle! Lula, on the other hand, would have avoided this puddle if she had to walk a mile around it! :) LOL

Lunch was simply awesome! Traditional German food and, of course, beer! :)

After about an hour ferry ride from Rostock, we arrived back in Warnemunde.

For hundreds of years, Warnemunde was just a sleepy fishing village on the Baltic coast. But ever since the 19th century, visitors can't seem to get enough of this place. Warnemunde's sandy beaches are the perfect setting for a seaside resort.

The padlocks pictured are symbolic of lovers commitment to each other. We first learned about this tradition when we were visiting the Cinque Terre area of Italy last year.

Of course, we stopped for a beer! (and coke) :)

Somebody was exhausted at the end of the day! :)
