Oasis of the Seas–1/25–2/1/2014

2014OasisBoarding

For the first time in 25 cruises with Royal Caribbean, we were upgraded to a mini-suite.   Yippee!!    Upon entering our cabin, my biggest surprise was the walk in closet.  Yes, a WALK-IN-CLOSET.

Next, a look at the bathroom……

Your eyes do not deceive you….yes – that’s a bathtub!    Now, I am really in heaven.    But now – look at this!

Balcony large enough for 2 lounge chairs plus a table and 3 chairs.   We could have had parties out there and would have if we were sailing with friends!

The cabin was spacious and comfortable.

I love Royal Caribbean!  Our first night we decided to go to 150 Park Place for the first time, using our BOGO benefit.  This restaurant is billed as a gourmet, 5 course meal with a wine paring.   Sounded good to us.    But, what they didn’t tell you is that the wine paring is $75 more per person.   So, you guessed it.   We skipped the wine paring.  The restaurant was beautiful and the food fabulous, but not worth the extra $$ to us.  Below is a plate of different types of salt.   Yes.  Salt.

First port was Nassau.  You can certainly see the upgrades to this port over the years.   We just took a walk, took some pics and went back to the ship.   Ship sailed at 2:00 PM so there wasn’t that much time to do much else.

Back on the ship, we took these pics looking down on the Boardwalk area.  Johnny Rockets is pictured on the left with the red umbrellas.   Breakfast is complementary here, and very good.    Lunch and dinner are ala carte.   The servers put on a show, which is pretty funny!

Afterwards, we were invited to a sail-a-way party on the helipad.   Quite an experience.

After a spin on the carousel, (Kos the daredevil is riding backwards ----such a showoff), we went to the Aqua Show, Oasis of Dreams.    It’s quite an amazing show.

Of course, the kiddies have their own pool area, complete with kid size lounge chairs!

Yep, that’s a Starbucks on the ship.  Not complementary!   Still always a line!   Go figure!  Smile

Above is the track which has a lane for walkers and a lane for runners.   2.4 times around = 1 mile.   There’s also a state of the art gym, which I took advantage of most days.  Kos – not so much Smile   LOL

Below is looking down on Central Park, where there are many restaurants and Café’s.   One evening we ate outside in the park at the Italian restaurant, Giovanni’s,  which was a memorable experience.   Food is always good, but the fact that we ate in the park while sailing was simply awesome.

There are many different pools.   One for sports and lap swimming,  a “beach” themed pool with artificial sand, a pool for games and live music, a kiddie pool area, and the solarium pools for adults only – complete with spa music!

The sports-deck has miniature golf (above), 2 flow riders, 2 rock climbing walls, a basketball/soccer court, table tennis, and a café that offers junk food.   But, pretty good junk food – pretzel wrapped hot dogs, nacho’s, burgers, fries, taco’s.

Still our favorite ship after 3 times!   Smile

Grandeur of the Seas 12/6 to 12/14/2013

Our newly refurbished ship, The Grandeur of the Seas, left Baltimore Harbor on December 6, 2013.   We were excited to celebrate our 34th Wedding Anniversary visiting the ports of Port Canaveral, Nassau, Key West and Coco Cay.

We were looking forward to having our Anniversary Lunch with good buddies, Rich and Jane, who would be picking us up in Port Canaveral.  They live in Winter Springs which is a little more than a half hour from the port.   The pic below was taken with the zoom lens on the camera from quite a distance away.

After a fantastic lunch at Dixie Crossroads (Thanks Rich and Jane), Rich brought us to Cape Canaveral National Seashore.   We had a really beautiful day!   Back at the ship, I tried my hand at line dancing.

The above photos were taken in Nassau, including the one immediately above which was the ceiling in Senor Frogs.    Smile

Our next port of call was Coco Cay, the private island of Royal Caribbean.   It truly is like paradise.  Beautiful aqua water, white sand, and private little spaces under the palm trees.   The ship does a barbecue for lunch of chicken, burgers, hot dogs and spare ribs, with all the trimmings.   A wonderful day.

Unfortunately, when we returned to the ship, we were told that our little Lula was seriously ill.  We were able to contact the doctor and were told that she was not going to live through the night.   Heart failure.  So, we gave permission to put her down.  We were devastated.   Below is the photo we took of her just weeks earlier to use for our Christmas card.   So Sad.   4/23/02-12/10/13

Rest in Peace Lula

After that news, the rest of the cruise was a blur.   We visited Key West, but just wandered around aimlessly.   Then 2 days at sea before getting home on 12/14.

Below we are “photo-bombed” by our concierge, Francis, who was absolutely wonderful.  We are pictured with Mary Beth and Drew, who we met on 2 previous cruises and really hit it off.   We enjoyed their company immensely and plan to keep in touch and hopefully cruise again together.
